Where can I buy truss plates/gang nails?

I am building a garage and I am making my own trusses. The attic trusses I would like to use are a little over $4000 to buy and all the wood including the ladders will only cost just over $900. I have the truss spec sheet designed on the MiTek software and I know I can build them. I also know I can use 3/4 plywood on the joins and meet code but I would like to use 'gang nails' like the truss companies use. I can modify a press to do the work but I can't seem to find out where to buy the gang nails. They have to be truss approved and I need some pretty large plates so is there a distributor in Canada for truss plates/gang nails?Where can I buy truss plates/gang nails?
You can try a local lumber yard that also makes trusses. If they don't stock the gang nails, they may be able to order them for you. It's much easier to use plywood gussets though. Getting an inspector to approve your homemade trusses may be an issue, though. Trusses are engineered, and you would have to convince him/her that you have done all of the load calculations to insure that they meet code, as well as demonstrating that you were able to calculate the amount and location of bracing required. Good luck.Where can I buy truss plates/gang nails?
simpson products is the name of the company home depot uses. lowes also sells those plates and nails. since you have a specified amount of nails it might be worth your while to rent a nail gun for a day or two. any lumber yard would have the plates and nails. check with rental places to see if they have a nail gun that shoots the right nail. i would buy the nails separate as the rental places soak you for materials.

I have this awful fear of nails on a chalkboard and on ceramic plates... help?!?

I really really want to get over this, it just makes my head hurt and I always want to cry when it happens.

It just happened and my face is all clenched and my hands go to my face and they dig in and my jaw tightens... it's a really horrible feeling. And then i just remember the sound and it all comes back

WHAT DO I DO?!I have this awful fear of nails on a chalkboard and on ceramic plates... help?!?
usually the more you're exposed to it, the better it will be to help you get over it. but that noise is irratating and unbearable to many many people.

I just had surgey where they put a plate put in my leg. is their a reason why i have blue nails?

please dont tell me i need to see my doctor... i know i should and i will. i just would like you smart people to give me your opinion.

2 other factors you should know but i am not sure if they have to do with it:

i have epilepsy and had a bad seizure recently where i went into tachycardia.

my dad punched me in the chest saturday.

...but my foot is kinda discolored too.

i know that blue nails means poor circulation. but today my chest hurts and i feel major nausea.I just had surgey where they put a plate put in my leg. is their a reason why i have blue nails?
so that means u have cyanosis that doesnt mean a big deal unless u have severe pain, paralysis, abnormal sensations ,weakness

blue nails are caused by 2 factors when ur heart and lungs dont do their jobs efficiently and when u have circulatory problems like decreased blood flow....in that case u will have just onew leg/hands affected

if u r very old and have chest symptoms be free to consult ur doc if u have breathless feeling

where u having a blue color from birth?see ur doc list is long of conditions causing blue color and sorry without seeing u doing some tests maybe noone can say what causes ur conditionI just had surgey where they put a plate put in my leg. is their a reason why i have blue nails?
This is serious. Go Check in.

  • In 2x6 wood framing how many nails should the wall studs have to fasten to the plates when toe nailed?

I would probably use 5 - 6 nails when toe-nailing. another option for added strength would be to cut ';scrap stud board'; (2X6) to fit the 16 inch gap (meaning cut them to fit snugly between the every other stud). Lay these on the floor and/or at the top of the wall and nail the studs into these. Allows straight nailing, and gives the stud something to attach. Far stronger - placing in every other gap allows you to nail two studs into the same board (each end). Use only if you can spare the scrap wood. I've even used short pieces and nailed only one stud to it. Good luckIn 2x6 wood framing how many nails should the wall studs have to fasten to the plates when toe nailed?
To toe nail a 2x6 there should be two 10d minimum nails per side, for a total of four toe nails. I prefer to use 16d nails though. In 2x6 wood framing how many nails should the wall studs have to fasten to the plates when toe nailed?
    4 nails 2 each side
Usually 3 nails per end will be sufficiant, Some framers use 5...3 on one side of the stud and two on the other.( if you use 5, put two of them on the same side). Hope this answers your question..

Identify the anode and cathode when plating an iron nail with zinc.?

Cathode would be the nail since it is attracting the Zn2+ ions, and the anode would presumably be Zn metal.

Would nail polish remover damage my flat-irons plates if i tried to clean them with it? HELP FAST PLZ!!!!!?

just clean it with a damp cloth [of water, not nail polish remover]Would nail polish remover damage my flat-irons plates if i tried to clean them with it? HELP FAST PLZ!!!!!?
No, some salons actually clean their flat-iron plates with nail polish remover.

And I've heard that theres a chemical in the remover that is very good for your hair...

So I suggest just letting it sit on the plates and let them air dry.

And maybe once its dry gently wipe it down with a damp cloth. [water]Would nail polish remover damage my flat-irons plates if i tried to clean them with it? HELP FAST PLZ!!!!!?
dont see why it would? but i think alcohol would work better
yes it will, it will remove the protective coating on your iron, and they candevelope rust-stains (really quick)

What is the effect and principle behind plating using magnesium sulfate, vinegar, penny and nail?

    here is some info

    http://www.magnesium-elektron.com/about-鈥?/a>

What type of coating is on ZInc plated nails that prevents them from corrosion/rusting?

It's zinc. Zinc is the coating over iron. The nail is iron which is strong enough to deal with the pounding it takes. But iron will rust. Therefore the iron nail is coated in zinc. The zinc acts as a ';sacrificial anode';. The zinc is more reactive than the iron and so the zinc is oxidized in place of iron.

  • Why do certain sounds make us cringe? (i.e. Nails on chalkboard, fork scratching on plate)?

Is it the certain frequency of the sound that makes our ears go crazy?

For me, I can't stand when cardboard rubs against something. It just makes me wince and the hairs on the back of my arms stand up.

What's the scientific reason for this? Has it even been researched? Why do certain sounds make us cringe? (i.e. Nails on chalkboard, fork scratching on plate)?
I guess it is the frequency. The high frequency in our ear's say NO WAY and that's what make's us wince. Our eardrum can only take but too much noise, and the high frequency in those thing's irratate it to make our eardrums and brain go psycho! Why do certain sounds make us cringe? Why do many people react (shivering) when, say, nails scratch a chalkboard, or a fork scratches a plate?

It has been noted that nails across a blackboard hits exactly the same frequency range as the screeches that many species of primates use to signal ';Danger! Predator!'; We could be tapping into a very deepseated instinctive response to this range of sound, to jump up and look around for danger.

Fast plating involving: Copper (II) sulfate (5% CuSo4 in 1% H2SO4) and nail?

    What happens to the nail?

What is the overall reaction equation?

What effects does the concentration have on the entire reaction?Fast plating involving: Copper (II) sulfate (5% CuSo4 in 1% H2SO4) and nail?
    1) To plating the nail, we must place the solution of Copper Sulfate and Sulfate Acid in the beaker. Then, take a wire that already connect with battery or electric power in the middle of wire. Bind the nails to two end of the wire. Place the two nails in the beaker. Set the experiment as electrolysis. Turn on the power of electric. And wait until the copper of solution resurface the face of nail. The nail would be yellowness as the copper like.

    2) anode : SO4^(-2) ----%26gt; SO4 + 2e ----%26gt; SO2 + O2 + 2e

**notice = SO4 not in ion is not stable

katode : Cu^(+2) + 2e ----%26gt; Cu (would be place on the face of nail)

    Reaction : CuSO4 ----%26gt; Cu + SO

    3) The concentration will be decreased

If I used one potato, zinc plated nail, and a penny, could I make enough electricity to light a small bulb?

like a small bulb in a tiny flashlightIf I used one potato, zinc plated nail, and a penny, could I make enough electricity to light a small bulb?
No, my sister is a science teacher and she has tried the potato battery with 6 of them in series. She got slight movement in the voltmeter needle, but not enough to light a bulb. You may have better luck with lemons with zinc and carbon electrodes. Lead and copper will work too.If I used one potato, zinc plated nail, and a penny, could I make enough electricity to light a small bulb?
It will work. You want to get the greatest surface area possible for the zinc and copper. I used small bits of sheet material to do that. And then connect 2 or 3 in series. I also used a low power LED which worked well.
You would have to use a small flashlight bulb in order to get it to work. I had to use 3 potatoes cut in half before we were finally able to get it to work for my daughter's project. The do have to be in series.
in theory, try it out in practice yourself

    Problems finding nail plates.?

What am I looking for (gang nails, nail plates). I've searched everywhere on line (lowes, home depot, ace hardware etc for the nail plates used to make trusses. No matter what term I use, there isnt anything listed in their search engines. I get everything but what I'm looking for. What the flyin H do they call these things and where do I buy them? I type in gang nails and I get gang boxes. I type in plate nails and I get an image of a piece of steel with holes in it.Problems finding nail plates.?
My buddy who made '; The BEST D$%^NG trusses in the world!'; calls them 'truss plates'.

Did you try Wikipedia? I did :D

';Truss connector plates';, ';metal connector plates'; or ';nail plates';.

IMHO (custom cabinets, not trusses), I'd call them joiner plates, but what do I know? LOL

    Good luck!Problems finding nail plates.?
I have used gang nails before and they look like a piece of steel with holes in it. If they showed the other side, you would see that the holes one side actually become the nails (joining metal spikes) on the other side, so your probably on the right track.

You may also like to look up timber Yards who (In New Zealand where I am) stock all those joining bits and building supplies.

    Hope this helped.

A rusty nail is pressed vertically on a rusty steel plate and dragged . Why do we get funny feeling?

You Know a feeling which can be only felt and not described.

How can we answer this phenomenon?A rusty nail is pressed vertically on a rusty steel plate and dragged . Why do we get funny feeling?
this is just beacuse of shrill sound comming from drag. if u perfectly close ur ears, u wont feel funny feeling. This perticular packet of frequncy contents creat a shiver in body.A rusty nail is pressed vertically on a rusty steel plate and dragged . Why do we get funny feeling?
    Friction.
The frictional force is applied on nail %26amp; a special sympathetic nerve(I forgot the particular name of nerve) causes such feeling.

How do you stop silver-plated copper wire from tarnishing?!(Tiara making) that doesn't involve nail varnish?

Its for tiaras, so it needs to be something that can be done to intricate delicate pieces. Please help! Non-tarnish is pants and sterling silver is too fragile to use.How do you stop silver-plated copper wire from tarnishing?!(Tiara making) that doesn't involve nail varnish?
If possible buy different wire, a different brand of non-tarnish may work better. There are companies that make decent non tarnish silver plated wire. Try parawire.com, I've used some of their wires for french wire flowers, and wire wrap jewelry. I've used their non-tarnish copper and it was quite good, I'm fairly certain they have a non-tarnish silver plated!Have you considered a different guage of sterling? It's available in such a variety of gauges and in everything from dead soft to dead hard!

It could also be that if you're running beads along the wire you're removing the finish. I had this happen with the silver plated wire I used for the flowers in my sisters wedding bouqet last year! Fortunately for me the wire was completely covered with beads when I was finished, but in your case this could be truly problematic. If this is the case, I'd try a different brand or beads with larger holes.

Beyond that, there are spray fixatives, but if you're using beads or stones of any kind that are applied before the fixative, it may dull these components!

Good Luck! How do you stop silver-plated copper wire from tarnishing?!(Tiara making) that doesn't involve nail varnish?
There are clear acrylic spray paints that are very easy to use. They're intended to seal crafts. Krylon makes one that's easy to use and is truly colorless. Any craft store ought to have it.
Store the object in a airtight bag and or wrap the object up in anti-tarnish cloth.

Can I attach bottom plate to basement floor with liquid nails or should I use concrete fastner?

Someone told me that it's just as easy using liquid nails or similar product to attach bottom plate to basement floor when framing as it is to use hammer drill or hammer gun. I'm concerned that if I do this over time the glue could lose its consistency and walls would become unstable. Can I attach bottom plate to basement floor with liquid nails or should I use concrete fastner?
The best way would be to use both. Better safe then sorry. My brother and I have just finished framing in his basement and that was the the way we did it.Can I attach bottom plate to basement floor with liquid nails or should I use concrete fastner?
Glue is not going to work for you...

You should put a vapour barrier down first (under the bottom plate). This can be 'Sill gasket' (which is foam on a roll about 6'; wide...) or tar paper or even just 6 mil plastic. This will prevent the bottom plate from 'drawing moisture' through the concrete. Usually a basement floor is only a few inches (at best) deep of concrete and then there's stone and dirt below that. Moisture will pass through concrete over time and if the conditions are right, mould will grow in a few years... in your bottom plate and lower studs.

I always use tar paper, set the position of the bottom plate, drill with a concrete bit and then use a hammer-in type anchor... These anchors work like a pin driven down through a hollow shaft that expands. You drill right through the bottom plate and the floor, set one of these in the top of the board and whack it with a hammer to pound the pin into the hollow shaft that you stuck in the hole in the wood... works awesome, easier and cheaper than tapcons and really strong at one every 16'; or so (between the vertical studs). Home Depot has them by the box in different sizes...

    Good Luck!
You DEFINITELY need mechanical fasteners in that sole plate. We like to use a ramset to fasten ours with but, there are all kinds of things to use. Also, you should consider using pressure treated lumber that comes in direct contact with concrete.I wouldn't glue my walls in place.
we in remodeling our basement used just the drill and srew method. It would be better safe. and I would hate for you to have to redo all that hard work in future. Good luck..God Bless
The moister you get from concrete won't allow liquid nails to hold. You will have to use concrete nails or screws
Either rent a ram set and shoot nails through the bottom plate or pre-drill and use tapcons in addition to construction adhesive. Do not depend on one method alone, especially just adhesive alone.

For framing basement walls, can I use liquid nail for bottom plate rather than drilling into concrete?

I've heard that using a hammer gun will most often crack basement slab and nail still won't be fully installed and unfortunately a hammer drill can be expensive. That's why a friend told me to use liquid nail or some similar product to glue the bottom plate to the floor. I'm concerned that over time, the glue could lose it's hold onto floor and walls may become loose. For framing basement walls, can I use liquid nail for bottom plate rather than drilling into concrete?
Stop listening to your friend!!!!!!!!!!! Bad Idea!!! cracks and miss nails should not be a concern. If you are worried about the cost of a hammer drill go rent one from a tool rental store! Just have your bottom plates and tapcons ready and get the tool. Dont rely on liquid nails to keep your walls in place. Slap your friend! For framing basement walls, can I use liquid nail for bottom plate rather than drilling into concrete?
I have never heard of this and I have sub-contracted the building of two homes. If the basement floor has been properly constructed, then it will cause minimal cracks, certainly nothing to be concerned over. I would worry more about my walls staying put.
I don't think I would trust liquid glue either. You could get a cement drill bit, and drill holes through the floor plate and into the concrete. Then use the anchor screws to secure it to the concrete. These screws have a casing that goes into the concrete hole. When the screw is tightened down, it expands the casing and stays put...period.

  • My nail plates are small from bad biting and cutting habits. Is there any way to make them bigger?

    Try Cuticle removing.

You need to use your cuticle remover to remove your cuticle, or actually push it down. Your cuticle is that soft skin that forms at the bottom of your fingernail at the place where your fingernail cartilage and your skin meet. Its job is to cover the place where your nail cartilage meets your skin, and make a smooth transition for that to happen. As your fingernails grow, your cuticle skin stretches, and this process of removing your cuticle pushes back that excess to promote your nail growth and health.

Again, you would want to check your cuticle area for rashes, redness, swelling, discoloration of any kind, and if any of those issues are present in your cuticle, seek the advice of a medical professional before pushing it back.

If you find that it looks pretty much like your fingernail and finger color, but with a different smoother and softer texture, go ahead and push the cuticle back with the cuticle remover, which is a little stick like device with a softer but firm tip made especially for the cuticle. It is not a cutting type tool. It looks a little shorter than a chopstick, but has a necessary soft tipped end to make sure that your cuticle does not get damaged.

Push back your cuticles one at a time using the cuticle removing tool. These are available from nearly any beauty supply store, or store that carries fingernail accessories of any kind. These are also relatively inexpensive.

It is important to note that if at any time in your process for any reason, if your nails start to bleed mildly or a lot, stop this procedure at once.My nail plates are small from bad biting and cutting habits. Is there any way to make them bigger?
Apply nail hardener and stop biting. MarieVMy nail plates are small from bad biting and cutting habits. Is there any way to make them bigger?
Yes their is if you quit bitting them they will grown out and grow to where they should be you 'pink' will get longer as with time your nail grows dont expect this to happen fast probley about 2-3 months if you go get fake nails on its the best way to keep from bitting your nails and it will also allow your pink to grown out look into a american manicure they are about the most natural look acurlic nail
try to be more preoccupied with both hands first so you can quit the habit. Once, you've quit it will grow according to your normal size. If you're a girl, there's a bigger chance of curing it, because well shaped nails are an asset of beauty and cleanliness. i was a nail-biter untill junior high. my nail plates are fine now, comparing it to my parents' fingernail shape, I guess, I hardly caused any damage.

I'm an EMT at an amusement park, and I frequently see splinters beneath the fingernail. You probably are not going to be able to get them out on your own. Enlist the help of someone you trust or a medical professional. Usually, splinters beneath the fingernail can be extracted using tweezers (after clipping your nail as low as you possibly can and placing plastic or a glove around your finger and submerging it in ice cold water to numb it up a bit. Be careful not to get the finger wet, though, or the wood will break up into many tine pieces). If it is too far below the free edge of the nail for this, you have no choice but to see a doctor and have the top part of your nail removed along with the splinter. It is possible for you to keep the splinter where it is, the pain will stop, and the splinter will come out as the nail grows. However, you run a high risk of infection going this route, and it's not advisable.

Have somebody else pull the splinter out because if they pull it out they can't feel pain and it'll be easier for them to pull it out

Have somebody else pull the splinter out because if they pull it out they can't feel pain and it'll be easier for them to pull it out

  • Can your nail plate grow back?

when i was young, i bit my nails for about three years, then i stopped in the third grade when i saw my teacher, a woman, biting her nails. her nails were horrible! its been a really long time since i last bit my nails, and surprisingly, my nail plate seems to have grown back and i have really nice nails, as in the pink part almost reaches the tips of all my nails. however, the pink part on my pinky nails has not completly grown back. is there anything i can do to make the pink part grow back? i want to try hard as hoof nail cream . is it good? any other suggestions? Can your nail plate grow back?
Yes, your nail bed will grow back as long as the root system (the matrix way at the bottom of the nail was not severely damaged, which it sounds like it was not) Try Nailtique, it's a clear polish that strengthens nails. There are also nail polishes that have natural fibers in them that will bind to and strengthen the nail plate as it grows in.

If you keep your nails polished it will make it harder to bite them if you ever get the urge. Can your nail plate grow back?
just keep putting moisturizers on it and stuff. i think you'll be alright as long as you let them grow and dont put too much wear and tear on them. that just may be how your nail grows too. everyone's different!

    Lengthen nail plate?

I used to be a nail biter as a child (I know...disgusting, isn't it?) and my nail plate--the pink part of the nail--is pretty short. I hate having it that short though I haven't bitten them for years and despite what my friends say, the nail plate hasn't grown a bit. Help?Lengthen nail plate?
Well the pink part of the nail is the nail bed, this is what the nail plate grows onto. It is very easy for the nail to get damaged when being biten, and this may have caused the problem that has caused it not grow back. The matrix part of the nail helps it grow, maybe this has been damaged. It is situated near the cuticle, massage it and see if that works. I used to be a nail bitter and bit my whole nail off once, but luckily it grew back stronger. However, because I was a nail biter all my nails are so weak and constantly break. I've been advised a nail strengthner, nail buffer, a herbal nail supplement and strangely to eat jelly raw. I do the buffing and strengthener and they are gradually working although it's taken years. Massaging the bottom of the nail near the cuticle may help. However, if it is the nail bed then I would go to see a doctor and see what they suggest. Hope I've helped a bit. :-)

Well, u have the whole list. What do u wana know?

The nail bed is the skin at the tip of ur finger on which the nail grows; the plate is the nail itself.

The cuticle is the skin round the nail that holds the root of the nail plate and the sides as well.

Fingernails and toenails, which are made of protein and are a form of modified hair, are composed of:

the nail matrix or the root of the nail - this is the growing part of the nail still under the skin at the nail's proximal end.

eponychium or cuticle which is the fold of skin at the proximal end of the nail.

paronychium which is the fold of skin on the sides of the nail.

hyponychium which is the attachment between the skin of the finger or toe and the distal end of the nail.

nail plate which is what we think of when we say nail, the hard and translucent portion, composed of keratin.

nail bed which is the adherent connective tissue that underlies the nail.

lunula which is the crescent shaped whitish area of the nail bed.

Nails grow at an average rate of 0.1 mm/day (1 cm every 100 days).Fingernails require 3 to 6 months to regrow completely. Toenails require 12 to 18 months. Actual growth rate is dependent upon age, season, exercise level, and hereditary factors

Could a nail fungus be the reason is my toenail plate not sticking to my toenail bed?

I just noticed that on one of my big toes it looked lighter on the edge. When I investigated it further I saw I was able to pull the nail plate away from the nail bed rather easily, without pain. This has never happened before. Could it be a nail fungus starting? My husband has had a nail fungus for years. Can I get it from him? Could a nail fungus be the reason is my toenail plate not sticking to my toenail bed?
It sure can be fungus and, yes, it's contagious!

    Try this:

Get a bottle of iodine and a plastic drinking straw.

Cut the end of the straw so it's like a little spoon.

Pour a tiny amount of iodine on the straw.

Gently lift your loose nail, and insert the straw-spoon as far as you comfortably can, then pour in the iodine.

Let it sit until it dries, then bandage it with gauze - no tight, waterproof bandaging.

Change twice a day. Do this a few days, maybe a week, and see if it's getting better.

It will kill that ol' fungus when nothing else will!

    Good luck, kiddo!

Why does the nail plate stained before, after applying base coat?

Uhm i'm really not sure what your asking lol

It keeps getting pulled back when I do stuff and it kind of hurts. My nail broke pretty far down (almost the middle of my nail plate), what do I do to it?
    I would suggest either:

    A. Putting a Band-Aid over the entire nail

    B. Taping it down with medical tape

    C. Using toe-nail clippers, clip as much as the nail away (But do NOT rip it, for this can cause pain and even more damage.)My nail broke pretty far down (almost the middle of my nail plate), what do I do to it?
You could either rip the rest of it off, that would be really painful or you could just let it grow back =)
Put a bandaid over it. :)

Is there any way to make the nail bed/plate longer?

I don't bite my nails, but the pink part of my nail keeps receding. It's mainly a problem on my middle fingers. So I let the things grow out until I can't stand how long they are, and I finally cut them and... they seem to have gotten even shorter. Any advice as to what I should do? It's really frustrating! Is there any way to make the nail bed/plate longer?
It sounds as if your cuticles may be the problem. The area at the base of the nail where it grows out from the finger. Soak your hands in warm soapy water to soften the skin and gently push it back using a thin towel or washcloth. Apply a good hand cream to keep the cuticles softened. Get in the habit of gently pushing back the cuticle each time you wash and dry your hands. You can buy cuticle remover in the nail polish/manicure are of the ladies cosmetic section of most stores. Apply according to directions and gently scrub with a soft brush, then push back with the towel as you dry. Apply warm olive oil or something similar at night to soften the cuticle area. Avoid cutting or trimming the cuticle as this can cause damage and infections if not done properly.

all you do is drill thru the wood.... then drill into cement.... and just beat long nails into the holes.....then use the adhesivesHow important is it to nail the floor plate into a concrete basement floor if...?
Hi, as i'm sure you know, there is a right way, a wrong way, and the in between. I built Bedrooms, sectioned of my whole basement into a Laundry room, Boiler room (MECHANICAL Room) Family/tv room and so on. And all I used was PL-400 construction adhesive for all the floor plates, and where I had attached them to the cement walls. That was 10 years ago, 8 years ago I wanted to put a door in one of the walls and the 2x4 plate broke before the adhesive did. So, i'm not saying it's right, but the in between way does work.

Good Luck and I hope this helped
when i build interior walls, i drill through the sill plate, into the concrete and install a red head bolt, which is a concrete anchor bolt intended for such projects. You will need a concrete drill bit and preferably a hammer drill. I usually install the bolts every 6 feet, and at least 6 inches from the corners. Make sure you use the drill bit recommended for the anchor. You can purchase these bolts at any hardware store.
You don't need to anchor the sill plate into the concrete as long as it's glued with some good construction adhesive. What you should do for sure is use a piece of treated lumber for the bottom plate though, as concrete tends to have moisture in it from the ground below it. This will help prevent mold and decay within the bottom plate. A wall this small is not critical to mechanically fasten the wall down.
You could glue it (not ideal) but you also have to protect it from coming in contact with the concrete. Either with a layer of Poly or Foam gasket tape. (both glue won't stick to). If you don't have a power hammer try good old concrete nails and a heavy hammer or Tap-con screws with a hammer drill.
Unless you push or bang against the wall alot, adhesive will probably be just fine. Just a couple concrete nails driven in as far as possible with a regular hammer is a good idea. Even if you can only get them down a fraction of an inch, it really helps keep the wall from moving.
Especially if it's a half wall. I wouldn't want to

depend on adhesive to anchor it.

    You don't need concrete nails.

A few drilled holes with screw plugs will do it.
    DO NOT NAIL INTO BLOCK!!!

It will crack. construction adhesive should be fine.
The best walls on a masonry floor are of masonry materials. Sill plates and the wooden walls are not the best or least costly. You have free choices like soda cans to glass or plastic bottles mortared like bricks from the slab up that make a better choice and no wood is used. Then you get a continuous thermal wall, that can help regulate temperatures instead of stick framed walls that do nothing but cost you money. They are more expensive to finish and they make no contribution to the comfort of thermal properties of your interior.

One of the biggest problems we see daily are termites in wooden floors. Those wooden floors that can not be checked, as in a crawl space inspection, suffer the most in many ways certainly when in a semi earth to wood situation. .

While drilling slabs for anchor bolts is a common practice of conventional construction, I personally am not in favor of it past the bare minimum, and with some extra measures in place as it does invite pest and other problems in the future inside walls too. Glue does not leave you in better shape as moisture can loosen wood from concrete if it swells. I've done both methods and seen them fail even under the most careful of installations. 1 flood out, from a water heater, toilet or water bed often starts this ball a rolling.

Future hydration of the boards, from moisture rising from the slabs micro cracks, or worse cracking that can happen with expansion plus the many drilled holes also can cause problems too. It is with this in mind I would reconsider the choice of any wood in contact with concrete , unless you must as in lintels.

We often design %26amp; install Adobe, Rammed Earth %26amp; other alternative buildings with clay %26amp; naturalistic or patterned concrete materials . Even floors that can mimic real wood and your floors are therefore safe and pretty too. If the slab was installed correctly from the start with pex tubing for hot water to flow within, your warm also.

I hope some of this helps you and do come join the Yahoo building discussion group sponsored by Georgia Adobe..

How long it takes nail plate grow back? ?

I been biting nails for really long time now that I have stopped my nails plate separates from nails bed and I would like to know how long it's gonna take a nail plate to grow back to normal shape? How long it takes nail plate grow back? ?
If your nail is separating for the nail bed there could be a few diferent reasons for it.

1.) Psoriasis of the nail. Basically all that means it that your nail bed is super dry and needs to be moisturized.

2.) A fungal infection. Biting your nails can allow bacteria to get underneath the nail and cause an infection. If the nail looks yellowish or very white, then it may be this.

3.) Neither of the above. You could have just damaged the nail and it will grow back.

All 3 of those reasons have a simple answer. Your nail takes approximately 6 months to grow out fresh from cuticle to tip. You can always consult a dermatologist or podiatrist if you feel it maybe a fungal infection.

TO help the nail grow out healthier look into ELON Nail Conditioner. It's been recommended for years by dermatologists to help splitting, peeling, cracking, damaged nails.

    Hope this Helps! Good Luck!

    Hi Deva

I think this is the info you need. Kill a fungus/infection is what you need done. Here are plenty of ideas that will work.

    Symptoms

Symptoms of infection include redness, inflammation, pain, swelling, and pus formation (abscess) at the site of the infection. Fever, cough, sneezing, fatigue, and bowel dysfunction (diarrhea) can also arise due to infection.

Note: Antibiotics do not protect against viral infection or inflammatory conditions, although they are often prescribed for such conditions.

Moreover, antibiotics destroy both harmful bacteria and the beneficial bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, potentially causing digestive and gastrointestinal problems and systemic yeast (Candida albicans) overgrowth.

    --------------------------------------鈥?br>

    Natural Cures

Aromatherapy: For fungicidal infections, cedarwood is effective, while for infected wounds, frankincense, tea tree, and/or patchouli can be useful.

Diet: Increase your intake of garlic and unflavored yogurt, and add infection fighting foods, such as diluted and organic (no sugar added) orange juice, apples and apple juice, grapes and grape juice, cranberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, peaches, plums, figs, cabbage, onion, kelp, and raw honey to your diet. Avoid sugar in any form, and drink plenty of filtered water.

Herbs: Herbs that act as anti-infectious agents include echinacea, goldenseal, garlic, Oregon grape, barberry, and adaptogenic herbs such as Siberian ginseng. Grapefruit seed extract also has strong antibiotic-like properties and can be applied topically or taken orally. Olive leaf extract has both antibacterial and antiviral properties, making it useful for a wide range of infections.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment.

Hyperthermia: Hyperthermia involves artificially creating fever in the body for the purpose of boosting immune function. Hyperthermia can be a highly effective method of eliminating toxins and heavy metals, as well as infectious bacteria and viruses that cannot survive in elevated body temperatures.

*Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy or hyperthermia treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Juice Therapy: Combining the juices of carrot, celery, beet, cantaloupe, and ginger can be helpful.

Nutritional Supplementation: The following nutritional alternative to antibiotics is often effective in treating infection, particularly in the initial stages: vitamin A (400,000 IU daily for five days), liquid garlic extract (up to two 4-ounce bottles a day) or the equivalent of high-quality garlic in capsules or tablets, and vitamin C to bowel tolerance.

Note: This protocol should only be used only under your doctor`s guidance. The dosages are for an average 150-pound adult and should be scaled down proportionately according to weight. The vitamin A should be taken for a period of at least three days, but no more than five days. In addition, vitamin A in these doses can cause headaches in about 1% of those who use it. Should this occur, decrease the dose.

Other useful nutrients for dealing with infection include: colloidal silver, essential fatty acids (EFAs), bromelain (an enzyme with anti-inflammatory properties), calcium, magnesium, vitamin B complex, vitamin B6, and zinc.

    Alternative Professional Care

If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating infection: Acupuncture, Craniosacral Therapy, Detoxification Therapy, Environmental Medicine, Magnetic Field Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Oxygen Therapy, Reflexology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Best of health to youFungus infection under the hand nail-plate Under treatment from dermotologists for morethan a year .?
Well, i know how you feel. It took me 10 years to re-grow a new nail on my toe! Then my doctor took out an in-grown nail on the toe and i got it back also. My thumb is also a problem. I have just cut it and cleaned it, cut it and cleaned it....goodness, 5 years! It looks like a normal nail growth now but hallow, because i clean it out from the inside. I put nail polish to cover it but it darkened the nail so now i have a dark nail in the center and people told me not to do that because the nail needs to breath...hmmmmm

The other thing someone suggested was to use Vaseline everyday all the time on the area and she said she got her nail back in two to three months.

You can also use Tea-Tree Oil. Pure....everyday on the hour off the hour. All the time! The pure Tree Tea Oil i got at a health food store and did cost me 20 something dollars. I do not want to take he medicine because it may work or may not work and it does take a very long time...up to a year and you will cause yourself more harm then good...Moisture is one of the problems for the nails which can cause fungus....Fungus is in the air and some people are just too sensitive to it. Wash the nail clippers after every use in proxide or bleach water.

What are the bad effects on the nail plate from acrylic nails ? the damage and concequences?

Top quality acrylic nail products do not damage your nails. A bad tech is what ruins your nails, not the acrylic. If you are going to a discount salon (paying $25 or less for a full set) what would one expect anyway? Great nails for that cheap? It doesn't happen. For the person that said the nails created ridges in their nails: No, it was not the acrylic. It was an unskilled tech who overfiled the nail plate using a Dremel tool. These ridges are called 'rings of fire.' They almost always happen when people go to the discount salons and pay dirt cheap prices for their nails. You get what you pay for. If you pay for cheap nails, you will get cheap nails. Simple as that. Most of the people working in discount salons should not be doing nails in the first place since they don't really even know how to properly do them. What are the bad effects on the nail plate from acrylic nails ? the damage and concequences?
    DONT DO IT

    it kills your nails forever

i know i had it done, its horrible

they are lovly when they are on but then you have to pay money every month to get them filled and once you are bored or cant afford it you have to take them off and see your weak nasty nails underneath

:)What are the bad effects on the nail plate from acrylic nails ? the damage and concequences?
If you wear acrylic nails every day, the will damage your nail bed. If you only get acrylic nails for special occasions its not that bad.
real nails become brittle and crack and break easy until all the damage from t he fake nails grow out

i also got ridges in my real nails from getting fill ins all the time

Usually it shouldn't be too bad. If you start feeling sick then the smart thing to do would be to see a doctor. Have you tried scissors or a tweezer? You can also wash your hands with soap and water to reduce the risk of infection. scrub under the finger nail to kill germs and to reduce chance of infection. Don't worry too much about it unless you become sick.

There's nothing much you can do, but wait for it to grow back in.

Fingernails grow at a rate of 3mm per month. It takes 6 months for a nail to grow from the root to the free edge.

    Hang in there. : )

Can you do french nails without the distal edge of your nail plate?

If so, how?Can you do french nails without the distal edge of your nail plate?
    Hi!

I use the French Manicure product http://www.mynaturalnails.com/ccp0-prodshow/RC-203.html that you brush on and it the blocks the UV light that makes your nail naturally look done without the separate steps and it dries quick (good for me since I tend to be impatient). If you just like the shiny but protected nails, I also like to rotate with this Elasticoat http://www.mynaturalnails.com/ccp0-prodshow/RC-303.html. Hope it helps..:)
